Some businesspeople expressed interest in settling the $701,680 debt of FijiFirst, according to former party member and Opposition MP, Mosese Bulitavu.
While Mr. Bulitavu did not disclose the identities of these individuals, he described them as influential businesspeople.
“We also considered the implications of acquiring power through the involvement of prominent business figures in political parties,” he stated.
He mentioned concerns that these businesspeople might seek to exert control over the party.
“Sometimes they will want something in return, like becoming board members,” he said.
“This was the norm before.”
“We gave careful thought to whether to involve them.”
Mr. Bulitavu noted that these individuals were supporters who did not want to see the party fail.
