A 43-year-old woman is scheduled to appear at the Sigatoka Magistrates Court today, facing charges of allegedly obtaining financial advantage by deception through a fake Facebook advertisement. The accused reportedly asked the victim to send $80 to secure an investment, then later requested an additional $200 to receive a promised profit of $200. The victim grew suspicious, contacted her mobile service provider, and reported the incident to the Tavua Police Station. The accused has been charged with one count of obtaining financial advantage by deception. Authorities urge the public to verify the details of individuals or institutions before sending money, as most legitimate entities do not conduct business via phone or messaging platforms.
