The much-anticipated opening of the COMO Laucala Island hangar at Nadi International Airport took place yesterday, but the event was held as a private function without public access. Despite earlier industry comments referring to the need for a ‘miracle’ to facilitate the launch, the occasion remained behind closed doors with only the Government’s Information arm attending.
Trade Minister Manoa Kamikamica stated that the private nature of the launch signifies a positive shift for the business environment. The multi-million dollar development project, which took five years to complete, faced numerous obstacles including Stop Order notices during the previous Bainimarama administration.
Mr. Kamikamica noted that this project was put on hold until Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka permitted its continuation. Laucala Island is recognized as a premier destination for affluent travelers from around the globe, contributing $3 million in foreign exchange to Fiji each month. COMO Laucala Island is also renowned as one of the largest private resorts worldwide and features a private lounge at Nadi International Airport.
