The much-anticipated opening of the COMO Laucala Island hangar at Nadi International Airport took place yesterday, but the event was conducted away from the public eye. This private soft launch came after industry comments highlighted the necessity of a ‘miracle’ for the hangar’s inauguration.
Trade Minister Manoa Kamikamica explained that the ceremony was exclusive, allowing entry only for the government’s information representatives. He characterized the launch as a sign of a positive outlook for the business environment.
The hangar development, which cost millions and took five years to complete, faced numerous delays, including Stop Order notices issued during the previous Bainimarama administration. Kamikamica noted that the project was previously halted until it received the green light from Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka.
Laucala Island is known for attracting high-profile visitors globally and contributes approximately $3 million in foreign exchange to Fiji every month. COMO Laucala Island, recognized as one of the largest private resorts in the world, features a private lounge at Nadi International Airport.
