Beauty, Brains, and a Black Belt: Meet the Pageant Queen Defying Odds

Nilshika Singh is a talented young woman hailing from Sigatoka, known for her beauty and intellect. She has achieved significant personal milestones, including winning beauty pageants and excelling in Taekwondo competitions in both Thailand and Fiji.

Growing up as an only child in a middle-class family, Ms. Singh reflects on her supportive upbringing, which provided her with the necessities to develop into the person she is today. “I never felt like anything was missing because my parents gave me everything I ever needed to grow into who I am today,” she shared, expressing a sense of loss for her mother, who is not with her to celebrate her accomplishments.

Her academic journey started at Nadi Sangam School, where she attended primary school from 2004 to 2011, followed by Sangam SKM College from 2012 to 2015. From a young age, Ms. Singh aspired to inspire others. “As a little kid, I had many ambitions, but my main goal in life was to become an inspiration to others so they could believe in themselves,” she said.

Ms. Singh is not only a dedicated individual but also a role model. She has participated in numerous local and international pageants, showcasing the beauty of her home nation on a global scale. Her pageantry journey began in 2017, where she achieved accolades such as first runner-up and charity queen, participating in the Miss India Fiji pageant. She has since gained recognition in various competitions, including the 2023 Miss Multicultural Global Australia, where she won titles such as Most Charming and Best Evening Gown.

Her crowning achievement came when she was named Mrs. M Universe Australia and subsequently secured the Mrs. M Universe International title in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. “Winning the title of Mrs. M Universe was an incredible experience filled with excitement, pride, and perhaps a bit of disbelief,” she remarked, emphasizing the validation of her hard work.

Beyond her pageantry, Ms. Singh is a black belt in Taekwondo, a combat sport that includes striking techniques. Recently, she was invited to represent her country in a Taekwondo competition in Bangkok, marking her return to the sport after a five-year hiatus. Ms. Singh expressed her enthusiasm for the opportunity to train with teams from around the world and serve as the chief guest at the competition’s opening ceremony.

Looking ahead, Ms. Singh envisions herself as a head coach in either pageantry or Taekwondo in five years, aiming to cultivate and train young talents to compete on an international stage. Currently, she works as a lead educator at Milestones Early Learning Centre in Australia, driven by her passion for nurturing the next generation.

“I’m proud to assist childcare trainees in their career development by sharing my knowledge and encouraging them,” Ms. Singh stated. She urges young people to pursue their talents without hesitation and encourages parents to support their children’s passion.

Now a permanent resident of Australia, Ms. Singh’s journey serves as an inspiration for the younger generation, reminding them that true potential is discovered through commitment and perseverance.
