Brent Hill, the CEO of Tourism Fiji, recently announced that the extensive $10 million renovation of Beachcomber Island Resort is expected to significantly enhance Fiji’s tourism landscape. The renovation will be executed in two phases, with the initial phase costing around $4 million and the subsequent phase totaling an estimated $6 million. The resort was previously listed for sale at $25 million in 2020.
During a press conference, Hill emphasized the importance of such investments in contributing to the growth of Fiji’s tourism sector. He expressed appreciation for the new owners, Brendon and Mark Deeley, highlighting their commitment to engaging with local communities and respecting cultural traditions throughout the renovation process.
Hill stated, “This is exactly the type of investment and exactly the type of people or company that we want to bring to Fiji.” He noted that previous reviews of the resort indicated it had not maintained the high standards expected of its reputation, and the new investment is a step towards restoring that status.
The CEO also pointed out that the Deeley brothers have a clear vision for the Beachcomber Island Resort that aligns with Tourism Fiji’s strategic priorities for promoting responsible and culturally respectful investments. Furthermore, he mentioned that the redevelopment is expected to create more job opportunities for locals, fostering community development alongside tourism growth.
This investment marks a hopeful turning point for Fiji’s tourism industry as it aims to enhance both visitor experiences and local livelihoods through improved facilities and services.
In summary, the renovation of Beachcomber Island Resort is anticipated to revitalize Fiji’s tourism, attract more visitors, and provide employment opportunities for local communities, reflecting a positive trend for the sector’s future.
