Battling Drug Menace: A Minister’s Perspective

Eradicating drugs entirely may be unattainable, but it is manageable, says Home Affairs Minister Pio Tikoduadua.

Speaking on The Lens@177, Mr. Tikoduadua stated that this issue existed before he took office and would persist long after he was gone.

He emphasized the necessity for the government to implement a system that prevents exploitation and ensures a strong leadership role in the fight against drugs.

“Our main goal as Fijians is to educate and prevent our people from consuming drugs,” he said.

“That’s the only feasible approach. That’s the outcome we want.

“We cannot halt drug production in South America, North America, or Asia. We cannot monitor all incoming boats; some will get through.

“Even the Americans face challenges in controlling cargo despite having advanced technology. We have a porous ocean surrounding the island.”

Mr. Tikoduadua added that their objective is to educate Fijians to “say no to drugs and do not consume drugs.”
