Battle of the Featherweights: Ubayd Haider Prepares for Epic Showdown in Fiji

Ubayd Haider views his upcoming bout for the IBO (International Boxing Organisation) Oceania-Orient vacant featherweight title against China’s Runqi Zhou as the most significant challenge of his boxing career.

Haider shared that he commenced his preparation this week after a lengthy break and is committed to maximizing his training efforts. He expressed concern about the limited boxing resources available in Fiji, particularly the scarcity of sparring partners.

To counter this, Haider plans to concentrate on his solo training regimen. He acknowledged Zhou’s toughness, stating that he needs to match his competitor’s skill in the ring. Haider remarked that while Zhou exhibits a high work rate, he does not possess overwhelming power but is proficient in boxing techniques.

The fight is set to take place on October 26 at Prince Charles Park in Nadi, where Haider anticipates a fierce contest with his Asian opponent. Due to work commitments and the timing of the match, he has been training alone at the Uptown boxing gym in Suva.

Haider is encouraging fans to attend and witness what he predicts will be an intense battle, describing it as a “blood bath” that will likely involve injuries. He acknowledged Zhou’s strong support team, which includes renowned fighters like the Maloney twins, Alex Winwood, and Bruno Tarimo, emphasizing that competing against Zhou will not be an easy challenge.

Aware that some critics might be there to see him lose, Haider expressed confidence in his preparedness, stating, “I will be coming for victory.” He believes his boxing footwork and height give him an advantage in the matchup. Haider also expressed gratitude to South Pacific Boxing promotions and Amarok Accessories for their backing.
