BAT Fiji’s $1.2M Solar Leap: A Green Future Ahead!

British American Tobacco (BAT) Fiji has entered into a $1.2 million agreement with Vision Energy Solutions (VES) for a solar project aimed at decreasing the company’s electricity consumption and carbon emissions.

Sam Dormor, general manager of BAT Fiji, stated that this solar initiative is a significant step in their sustainability objectives. “This collaboration with Vision Energy Solutions will enable us to reduce our electricity usage by about 60 percent and decrease our carbon emissions by roughly 32 percent at our Nabua site,” Mr. Dormor explained. He added that this effort is in line with their goal to achieve 50 percent renewable energy and halve their carbon emissions by the year 2030.

Sanjesh Prasad, chief executive officer of Vision Investments, mentioned that VES was created six years ago in response to the increasing need for renewable energy solutions in Fiji, particularly in solar power. “We take pride in our skilled local team that has successfully executed large-scale solar initiatives throughout the nation,” Mr. Prasad noted.

He highlighted that their local experts handle all aspects of the project, from supply and installation to commissioning and service, ensuring comprehensive after-sales support. “Vision Energy Solutions is honored to partner with BAT Fiji for this solar initiative,” he stated.

As part of the agreement, solar panels will be installed at BAT Fiji’s Nabua factory and at their Leaf Division in Nadi. The project involves creating an 812 kW power system expected to produce a total of 880,000 kWh of electricity each year for both locations. Installation began last week and is projected to be finished by January next year.
