BAT Fiji Takes Bold Steps Toward Sustainability with $1.2M Solar Project

British American Tobacco Fiji has entered into a contract with Vision Energy Solutions to implement a $1.2 million solar energy project in Nabua and Nadi. The agreement includes the installation of solar panels at BAT Fiji’s Nabua Factory and the Leaf Division in Nadi, featuring an 812kW power system expected to produce approximately 880,000 kWh of electricity annually for the two locations.

Sam Dormor, general manager of BAT Fiji, highlighted that this solar initiative marks a critical step in their sustainability efforts. He remarked that over the past two years, BAT Fiji has made substantial advancements and investments toward its sustainability agenda, reflecting their dedication to combatting climate change.

Dormor mentioned that the collaboration with Vision Energy Solutions would lead to a reduction in electricity consumption by around 60% and a decrease in carbon emissions by approximately 32% at the Nabua site. He noted that this endeavor aligns with their objective to source 50% of their energy from renewable sources and to cut their carbon emissions in half by the year 2030.

The installation process began earlier this week and is anticipated to reach completion by January 2025. Sanjesh Prasad, CEO of Vision Investments, expressed pride in partnering with BAT Fiji to execute this solar project. He emphasized that their local team has consistently proven its capability by successfully managing large-scale solar projects nationwide.

Prasad further stated that Vision Energy Solutions is committed to providing renewable energy solutions for businesses in Fiji while making a positive environmental impact through sustainable practices and community collaborations.
