BAT Fiji Launches $1.2M Solar Initiative for a Greener Future

British American Tobacco (BAT) Fiji has entered into a contract with Vision Energy Solutions to implement a $1.2 million solar energy project in the areas of Nabua and Nadi. This agreement will facilitate the installation of solar panels at BAT Fiji’s Nabua Factory and the Leaf Division in Nadi, creating an 812kW power system capable of generating approximately 880,000 kWh of electricity annually for both locations.

Sam Dormor, the general manager of BAT Fiji, emphasized that this solar initiative is a crucial step in the company’s sustainability efforts. He noted that in the past two years, BAT Fiji has made considerable advancements and investments towards its sustainability goals, reinforcing its dedication to combating climate change. Dormor highlighted that this collaboration with Vision Energy Solutions is expected to decrease electricity consumption by around 60% and cut carbon emissions by roughly 32% at the Nabua site. This initiative is part of BAT Fiji’s aim to reach a target of 50% renewable energy and a 50% reduction in carbon emissions by the year 2030.

The installation of solar panels has commenced and is anticipated to be completed by January 2025. Sanjesh Prasad, CEO of Vision Investments, expressed pride in partnering with BAT Fiji for this solar project. He mentioned that Vision Energy Solutions has a skilled local team that has successfully executed large-scale solar projects throughout the nation. Prasad assured that the entire process, from supply and installation to commissioning and servicing, will be managed by local experts, ensuring comprehensive after-sales support. He reiterated Vision Energy Solutions’ commitment to providing renewable energy to Fijian businesses while fostering a positive environmental impact through collaboration, sustainable practices, and community partnerships.
