British American Tobacco Fiji has entered into a contract with Vision Energy Solutions to implement a $1.2 million solar energy project in Nabua and Nadi.
The agreement involves the installation of solar panels at BAT Fiji’s Nabua Factory and the Leaf Division in Nadi, where an 812kW power system will be set up to produce around 880,000 kWh of electricity annually for both locations.
Sam Dormor, general manager of BAT Fiji, expressed that this solar initiative marks a significant step in their sustainability efforts. He highlighted that during the past two years, the company has made substantial advancements and investments aimed at addressing climate change.
Dormor stated, “This collaboration with Vision Energy Solutions will enable us to decrease our electricity consumption by roughly 60% and cut our carbon emissions by about 32% at our Nabua site. This effort aligns with our goal of achieving 50% of our energy from renewable sources and reducing our carbon emissions by 50% by 2030.”
Installation of the solar panels began earlier this week and is projected to be finalized by January 2025.
Sanjesh Prasad, CEO of Vision Investments, expressed pride in partnering with BAT Fiji to execute the solar project. He noted that the local team at Vision Energy Solutions has built a strong reputation by successfully handling large-scale solar initiatives throughout the country.
Prasad mentioned, “Our local experts manage everything in-house, from supply and installation to commissioning and servicing, ensuring comprehensive after-sales support. At Vision Energy Solutions, we are dedicated to providing renewable energy for Fijian businesses while fostering a positive environmental impact through collaboration, sustainable practices, and community partnerships.”
