British American Tobacco Fiji has established a contract with Vision Energy Solutions to execute a $1.2 million solar energy project in Nabua and Nadi.
This initiative will involve the installation of solar panels at BAT Fiji’s Nabua Factory and Leaf Division in Nadi, creating an 812kW power system projected to generate approximately 880,000 kWh of electricity annually for both locations.
Sam Dormor, the general manager of BAT Fiji, stated that the solar project is a significant step in advancing the company’s sustainability agenda. He noted, “In the past two years, BAT Fiji has made notable advancements and investments towards achieving our sustainability goals, which highlights our commitment to combating climate change.”
Dormor emphasized that this collaboration with Vision Energy Solutions is set to reduce electricity consumption by around 60% and decrease carbon emissions by approximately 32% at the Nabua site. This initiative aligns with BAT Fiji’s objectives to utilize 50% renewable energy and cut carbon emissions by 50% by the year 2030.
The installation effort began earlier this week and is anticipated to be finalized by January 2025.
Sanjesh Prasad, CEO of Vision Investments, expressed pride in partnering with BAT Fiji for this solar project. He highlighted the strength and expertise of their local team, which has successfully executed large-scale solar projects across the nation.
Prasad added, “Our local experts handle everything from supply and installation to commissioning and servicing, thereby ensuring comprehensive after-sales support. At Vision Energy Solutions, we are dedicated to delivering renewable energy for Fijian businesses while fostering positive environmental impacts through teamwork, sustainable practices, and community collaborations.”
