British American Tobacco (BAT) Fiji has entered into a $1.2 million agreement with Vision Energy Solutions (VES) to implement a solar project aimed at reducing the company’s electricity consumption and carbon footprint.
Sam Dormor, general manager of BAT Fiji, stated that the solar initiative is a significant step in their sustainability efforts. He highlighted that the collaboration with Vision Energy Solutions is projected to lead to a 60 percent reduction in electricity usage and a 32 percent decrease in carbon emissions at their Nabua facility. This project is in line with BAT’s goal to source 50 percent of its energy from renewable sources and cut carbon emissions in half by 2030.
Sanjesh Prasad, CEO of Vision Investments, noted that Vision Energy Solutions was created six years ago in response to the increasing demand for renewable energy options in Fiji. He expressed pride in their local team, which has successfully completed numerous large-scale solar projects nationwide.
Vision Energy Solutions will oversee all aspects of the project, from supply and installation to commissioning and ongoing maintenance, ensuring comprehensive after-sales support.
The project will involve the installation of solar panels at BAT Fiji’s Nabua Factory and Leaf Division in Nadi, with an 812kW power system expected to generate approximately 880,000 kWh of electricity annually for both sites. Installation commenced last week and is scheduled for completion by January next year.
