Asenaca Raloka has dedicated eight years to teaching and nurturing boys in an all-male school. Her experience at Ratu Kadavulevu School has been challenging yet deeply rewarding, serving as a journey of growth and understanding. She has taken on her role with a strong sense of responsibility, effectively balancing discipline with a nurturing approach.
“Teaching in an all-boys school presents its own set of challenges,” Asenaca noted. She finds her role extends beyond academic instruction, involving a maternal responsibility to guide her students in both their education and personal growth. One of her key beliefs is in the significance of teaching basic manners and healthy living habits, which she believes are crucial for instilling respect and personal hygiene, thus contributing to a well-rounded education that equips students for life outside the classroom.
Outside her professional life, Asenaca is also a mother of two, living with her family on the school grounds, which helps her stay connected to her work while managing her home. “As a full-time teacher, I ensure my household is organized as well. This is an advantage of living within the school compound,” she explained.
Her shopping habits demonstrate her practical approach to household management. Asenaca spends between $200 and $250 weekly on essentials such as cereals, milk, eggs, and toiletries. She prefers the supermarket in Korovou Town that offers special deals, and she also dedicates time to the local market, sourcing fresh produce directly from farmers and vendors.
“These basic items form the cornerstone of my family’s diet, providing necessary nutrition and sustenance daily,” she said. This practice not only supports the local economy but ensures her family receives quality, nutritious food.
Asenaca observed that many people from nearby villages often rush their shopping to catch the next bus home. “We must also be very cautious of what we buy. Rush-shopping is something not to be encouraged,” she said, emphasizing the importance of shopping with a focused mindset, which she believes aids in wise budgeting without distractions.
Her commitment to her family and students highlights the merging of personal and professional responsibilities. Asenaca encourages shoppers to take their time in supermarkets, as careful selection of products can prevent disappointment.
