Tevita Loga, a 56-year-old entrepreneur, is actively developing his bakery business, known as Three T’s, located in Naruwai, Dama, Bua. With just over a month since the business launched, it has shown promising growth, benefiting from community support as residents of Dama regularly purchase bread products.
Loga has stated that the bakery has emerged as a significant asset for local residents, particularly because many in the surrounding villages find it challenging to obtain baked goods and other basic supplies due to their remote locations. This situation underscores the importance of local businesses in providing essential services.
Currently, around 130 families reside in the area, signaling a demand for bakery items that can ease the challenges faced by those living in Labasa and Nabouwalu, which are approximately 200 kilometers away. Recently, residents have noted that sales have improved, with delivery options being implemented in several nearby villages.
The bakery offers a variety of products, including cream buns, cheese buns, pizzas, coconut rolls, and cakes. Loga emphasizes that sustaining such businesses is crucial, particularly as many locals are seeking opportunities for development.
Despite some supply challenges, particularly regarding transportation from neighboring districts, the demand for baked goods remains strong. Local markets, especially in Nabouwalu, face shortages in popular items, making Loga’s business an important player in addressing these needs.
The government is supportive of small businesses like Loga’s, recognizing their potential for community development. Loga encourages local youth to reconsider their options and seriously contemplate entering the job market, particularly in light of the ongoing positive developments in their communities.
