The High Court has granted bail to Emosi Tikoicina, who is accused of setting fire to the Navuso Agricultural Technical Institute in Nausori. The case was heard this afternoon by Justice Thushara Rajasinghe, who imposed strict bail conditions on Tikoicina.
Under the terms of his bail, Tikoicina is prohibited from interfering with prosecution witnesses and is required not to commit any further offenses while released. Additionally, he must refrain from entering the Technical Institute.
During the court proceedings, State Counsel Zenith Zunaid revealed that Tikoicina had allegedly confessed to a friend who is also a student at the Institute. The accused had previously pleaded not guilty in May.
Tikoicina faces one count of arson, in violation of section 362 (a) of the Crimes Act 2009. The allegations state that on April 7, 2024, in Nausori’s Eastern Division, he willfully and unlawfully set fire to the building and its contents.
The case has been scheduled for mention on September 30.
