Business Assistance Fiji (BAF) has proudly received the esteemed International Council for Small Businesses (ICSB) LightHouse Award, a significant acknowledgment that highlights its dedication to the support of Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) in Fiji. This recognition is particularly special as BAF has been a member of the ICSB since 2022, aligning its mission with a global initiative aimed at empowering small businesses.
The ICSB LightHouse Awards celebrate organizations that focus on bolstering MSMEs, which are often the backbone of local economies. The award serves as a symbolic lighthouse, providing guidance, direction, and much-needed support to entrepreneurs as they navigate the complexities of establishing and growing their businesses.
Dr. Ayman El Tarabishy, the ICSB’s president and CEO, expressed his enthusiasm for BAF’s achievement, noting its strong commitment to addressing grassroots development and championing micro-businesses. He remarked, “BAF’s approach ensures that Fijian businesses not only thrive locally but can also engage with global best practices.”
In his response to the recognition, Ramesh Chand, BAF’s General Manager, stated that the award represents not just the hard work of the BAF team, but also reflects the invaluable role that MSMEs play in transforming local communities. He reiterated BAF’s focus on economic development and empowerment through targeted programs, which cater to the unique challenges faced by micro-businesses.
Remarkably, BAF has also launched initiatives aimed at supporting often underrepresented groups, particularly women and youth-led enterprises. These efforts are in line with BAF’s mission to foster inclusivity within the business environment in Fiji.
The recognition of BAF through the ICSB award signifies a hopeful and positive trajectory, underlining the vital impact that sustained efforts in the MSME sector can have on economic resilience and growth. This accomplishment not only marks a proud moment for BAF but also inspires confidence for the continued development of entrepreneurship in Fiji.
As organizations like BAF continue to pave the way for small businesses, the future looks promising, nurturing an ecosystem where local entrepreneurs can flourish amid challenges.
