The 2024 Ba Rugby Tikina Championships officially commenced in Sorokoba Village, Ba. The tournament starts this Saturday, featuring thrilling matches in the Ba Industries Limited (BIL) men’s division, Rooster Chicken women’s division, and U19 division.
This event is scheduled to continue until October 19 and forms a key part of Ba Rugby’s elite development program aimed at preparing the three Ba representative teams for the 2025 season.
Jeremy Duxbury, an executive from Ba Rugby Union, announced the participating teams. He remarked that the Rooster Chicken Shield for women includes two new teams this year – Savatu and Yakete – bringing the total to eight teams. Additionally, the eight U19 teams will debut in new BLK uniforms during the tournament.
Duxbury expressed confidence that the Ba Industries Cup for men would elevate the competitive standards, particularly after an intense club competition. Improvements from clubs in Naloto, Magodro, and Savatu indicate that the competition will be fierce, with no certain outcomes.
Sanjay Badgujar, General Manager of the men’s division main sponsor BIL, expressed pride in their partnership with Ba Rugby Union. He acknowledged the organization’s remarkable achievements despite past skepticism, stating, “Today we are proud of ourselves in having this partnership, and this relationship will help achieve the objectives and to become champions in Fiji Rugby.”
