The 2024 Ba Rugby Tikina Championships has officially launched at Sorokoba Village in Ba. The tournament is set to begin this Saturday, featuring thrilling matches in several divisions, including the Ba Industries Limited (BIL) men’s division, the Rooster Chicken women’s division, and the U19 division.
The competition will continue until October 19 and forms part of Ba Rugby’s elite development pathway aimed at preparing the three Ba representative teams for the 2025 season. Ba Rugby Union executive Jeremy Duxbury announced the teams taking part in the tournament.
Duxbury highlighted, “This year, the Rooster Chicken Shield (Women’s) will see the addition of two new teams—Savatu and Yakete—bringing the total to eight teams. Additionally, all eight U19 teams will be outfitted in brand new BLK uniforms for the tournament.”
He added that following a highly competitive club competition, the Ba Industries Cup (Men’s) is anticipated to elevate rugby standards once again. Notable improvements from clubs in Naloto, Magodro, and Savatu are expected, indicating that no outcomes are guaranteed this season.
Sanjay Badgujar, General Manager of BIL, the main sponsor for the men’s division, expressed pride in their association with Ba Rugby Union. “Ba Rugby has achieved remarkable success against the odds. Skeptics doubted our potential to grow, but we have proven them wrong. We are proud of this partnership, which will help us achieve our goals and become champions in Fiji Rugby,” Badgujar stated.
