Ba Rugby Union is looking forward to a potential pre-season match against the Fijian Drua, which they believe can offer significant advantages for their players. According to Ba Rugby Union secretary Gaby Kautoga, such a match would not only elevate the morale and spirit of the team, but it would also provide invaluable experience as the players face off against notable athletes they admire.

Kautoga expressed his appreciation for the Fijian Drua’s initiative to support provincial unions, suggesting that this collaboration serves to prepare both the Drua and the local teams for the upcoming season. With a delay in the current season’s schedule, he sees it as an opportune moment to provide game time for the players.

“The experience of playing against the Drua will expose our players to a higher level of competition, aiding their growth in tackling peer pressure, especially during the festive season when distractions abound,” Kautoga stated. He emphasized the importance of nurturing local talent and hinted that standout players might even attract attention from the Drua coaching staff for potential recruitment.

In another matter, Kautoga plans to address the issue regarding team jerseys during the Fiji Rugby Union’s Annual General Meeting. He expressed hope that FRU would consider opening sponsorships, allowing teams to wear merchandise from different brands instead of restricted options. This concern stems from a disqualification during a Skipper Cup match due to jersey regulations, where the team wore their BLK jersey instead of one from the designated supplier.

Aside from sponsorship issues, Kautoga pointed out challenges in communication with Rugby House, particularly regarding the scheduling changes for the Skipper Cup, which may disrupt their preparations. He highlighted delayed responses from FRU and the logistical difficulties in traveling to Suva from Ba.

Overall, Ba Rugby Union’s ambitions reflect a commitment to not only enhance their performances but also to foster the development of local players through exposure to higher competition and better support systems. This proactive approach could significantly contribute to the growth of rugby in the region and the overall enhancement of the sport.

This article highlights the efforts of Ba Rugby Union in seeking to improve their players’ skills and experiences, setting a hopeful tone for future collaborations with established teams like the Fijian Drua. More initiatives like these could greatly benefit local talent and elevate rugby standards in provincial unions.
