Ba FC Smash Nasinu 7-0 to Grab Second in Fiji’s Extra Premier League

Ba FC roared back into the thick of the Extra Premier League title race with a crushing 7-0 victory over Nasinu FC at Govind Park on Saturday, moving the seven-time champions into second place on 20 points. The one-sided result was a statement of intent from Ba, whose ruthless attacking display overwhelmed Nasinu from the opening whistle and secured a vital three points in Round 10.

The emphatic win not only padded Ba’s points tally but also swung the standings after an early shake-up in the round. Lautoka FC had briefly occupied second spot following a 5-1 victory over Tailevu Naitasiri FC earlier in the day. Lautoka — nicknamed the Blues — held a 2-1 lead at halftime before a dominant second-half showing produced three more goals to leave them on 19 points, only for Ba’s goal glut at Govind Park to reclaim the higher berth.

Labasa remain the side to catch at the top of the table after they secured a late winner against Rewa in a separate fixture yesterday, preserving their advantage in what has become a tightly contested race. The weekend’s results underline how little separates the leading teams, with momentum and goal difference likely to be decisive as the season progresses.

Elsewhere in Round 10, Nadroga and Navua shared the spoils in a 1-1 draw, a result that keeps both clubs locked in the mid-table mix and adds to the tightening competition beneath the frontrunners. With several clubs picking up points across the weekend, the Extra Premier League standings are now finely balanced heading into the next set of fixtures.

Ba’s seven-goal haul will do more than just lift them up the table — it should bolster confidence and goal differential as they chase down leaders Labasa. For Nasinu, the heavy defeat is a setback that will raise questions about defensive frailties ahead of a congested schedule. Lautoka, sitting a point behind Ba, will take heart from their second-half resurgence but must guard against complacency as challengers pile on pressure.

As the title race develops, the next round of matches will be crucial. Teams near the summit will be looking to build on positive results or arrest slide after damaging losses, with little margin for error in what is shaping up to be an unpredictable campaign.
