Australia and Fiji Unite Against Rising Drug Challenges

Australia’s Foreign Affairs Minister, Penny Wong, emphasized the importance of collaboration as equal partners in addressing pressing challenges like the increasing drug issue.

During her recent visit, Wong announced the successful tender for the redevelopment of the Colonial War Memorial Hospital and participated in the Pacific Islands Forum Foreign Ministers Meeting.

She stated, “The principle of Vuvale and our collaboration with you is focused on being responsive. I am here to work with you on the programs and issues your government prioritizes and how you seek to partner with us for support.”

Wong confirmed that Australia will continue its support for the Fiji Police Force, including assistance in intelligence and digital forensics.

“We have various bilateral and regional initiatives aimed at enhancing cooperation with law enforcement to combat drug production and trafficking, as well as addressing the social consequences of drug use.”

Moreover, she highlighted Australia’s commitment to establishing police command centers, providing training in intelligence and digital forensics, and engaging more intensively in complex transnational investigations.
