Australia and Fiji Join Forces for Major Hospital Renovation

Johnstaff International Development, an Australian-owned international development partner focused on the Pacific, has been awarded the tender for the CWM Master Plan Renovation project.

Penny Wong, Australia’s Minister for Foreign Affairs, announced the appointment of the lead consultant for this initiative and emphasized the ongoing partnership between Australia and Fiji in tackling various challenges. The development of the master plan is expected to take approximately 12 to 14 months before renovations commence.

The $14.7 million infrastructure master plan for CWM Hospital is funded by Australia, with Johnstaff International Development selected as the lead consultant, collaborating with partners GHD, Silver Thomas Hanley, and International SOS Australasia.

Wong stated that Australia would also assist with an engineering assessment of the hospital’s current condition. She noted the importance of ensuring that the hospital continues to serve the Fijian people during the development and implementation of the master plan.

Fiji’s Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka expressed appreciation for the support received from Australia in the healthcare sector. Wong highlighted the commitment to working with Fiji to enhance services for its citizens, expressing honor in the partnership and a desire to continue fostering better services, inclusive opportunities, and prosperity in the region.

The redevelopment aims to establish a more modern, resilient, and patient-centered CWM hospital.
