Australia Aims for Redemption Against Fiji in Thrilling Second Test

The Australian Schoolboys under-18 team is focused on making a comeback in their second test match against the Fiji Schoolboys after a disappointing 14-26 defeat in the first test at Lawaqa Park in Sigatoka. This loss marked their first defeat to Fiji since 2003, prompting a strong desire to demonstrate their true capabilities.

Head coach Dan Hawke noted that the unique atmosphere in Fiji has posed a challenge for the team and praised the chance to compete against a formidable Fijian squad. He pointed out that Fiji’s strength is in their counterattacking ability, with three of their four tries in the first test resulting from quick transitions.

Hawke stressed the importance of discipline for his players, urging them to avoid falling into a loose playing style that could benefit the Fijians. The Australian team plans to eliminate long cut passes, as they noticed the Fijian players were quicker during the first test. They intend to adhere to a structured game plan and reduce risky plays that could hand the advantage to their opponents. Hawke also emphasized the significance of managing emotions on the field, minimizing unnecessary offloads, and steering clear of random kicks that are not aligned with their strategy.

The Australian team is set to showcase a more controlled and disciplined approach in the upcoming second test, scheduled for today at 3pm at Lawaqa Park in Sigatoka.
