The fire that severely damaged the Defence Club in Suva last February has been classified as arson. Puamau Sowane, the Chief Executive Officer of the National Fire Authority, confirmed this classification in a statement made yesterday, stating that the investigation into the incident has been completed.
According to the investigation report, the fire’s origin and source indicate that it was intentionally set. The file from the investigation has been forwarded to the Fiji Police Crime Office for further action.
Assistant Commissioner of Police Crime, Mesake Waqa, acknowledged receiving the investigation report and stated, “We will analyze the investigation report by the NFA and identify the point of origin before proceeding with the next steps.”
