The fire that destroyed the Defence Club in Suva earlier this year has been officially classified as arson. Puamau Sowane, the chief executive officer of the National Fire Authority, announced this conclusion in a statement, indicating that the investigation into the incident has been completed.
Sowane noted that the report determined the fire’s cause to be arson based on its origin and source. The investigation file has been forwarded to the Fiji Police Crime Office, with Assistant Commissioner of Police Crime Mesake Waqa confirming receipt of the documents. Waqa stated that they will review the investigation report from the National Fire Authority to establish the fire’s point of origin and proceed from there.
