The fire that destroyed the Defence Club in Suva earlier this year has been classified as arson. Puamau Sowane, the chief executive officer of the National Fire Authority, confirmed this classification in a statement yesterday, stating that the investigation into the incident has concluded.
“The investigation report indicates that the cause of the fire has been determined as arson based on its origin and source,” Mr. Sowane said. The investigation file has been forwarded to the Fiji Police Crime Office.
Assistant Commissioner of Police Crime, Mesake Waqa, confirmed that the file has been received. “We will review the NFA’s investigation report to identify the origin of the fire and proceed from there,” Mr. Waqa added.
