Arson Accusations: A Friend’s Silence in the Courtroom Drama

A man alleged to have set fire to the Navuso Agricultural Technical Institute on April 7 has been instructed to maintain distance from a friend to whom he reportedly confessed. Emosi Tikoicina, facing arson charges, appeared before Justice Thushara Rajasinghe at the High Court in Suva for a bail hearing.

During the proceedings, DPP lawyer Zenith Zunaid requested that the court impose a prohibition against the accused contacting all prosecution witnesses, specifically the friend with whom he allegedly disclosed details of the crime. Mr. Zunaid noted that Tikoicina had purportedly made verbal admissions of his involvement to several individuals, including his friend, the arresting officer, the interviewing officer, and a Justice of Peace.

Tikoicina was granted a $500 non-cash bail bond, with his father and cousin serving as sureties, each bonded for the same amount. He has been reminded to adhere to the bail conditions set by the court. Tikoicina is scheduled to return to court on September 30.
