ANZ Fiji faced significant challenges due to a payment system outage that began on Monday, December 30, 2024. For three days, many customers were left without any public announcement regarding the issue, causing frustration among those affected. Information about the outage was only available to individuals who called the bank’s Helpline.
Rabih Yazbek, the country head for ANZ Fiji, indicated that the bank’s technology teams were working diligently to resolve a complex technical problem. He acknowledged that the public holiday period further complicated their efforts to rectify the situation.
Yazbek expressed regret for the inconvenience caused to customers, stating, “We understand the impact this has had on our customers, and we sincerely apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused.” He confirmed that a fix was successfully implemented early this morning, and normal payment processing has resumed.
For any ongoing issues or concerns regarding bank fees resulting from the outage, customers are urged to contact the bank at 132 411. ANZ Fiji caters to a substantial customer base of around 200,000 Fijians.
This situation serves as a reminder of the importance of effective communication during service disruptions. ANZ Fiji’s swift response to rectify the issue is commendable and offers hope that customer service and technology operations will improve in the future to prevent similar situations.
