ANZ Fiji faced a significant disruption in their payment system that began on December 30, 2024. Over the past three days, customers expressed their frustration, particularly due to the lack of public communication about the outage. Many were only made aware of the situation when they reached out to the bank’s helpline for information.

Rabih Yazbek, the country head of ANZ Fiji, acknowledged the problem, explaining that their technology team has been actively working to resolve the complex technical difficulties. The situation was exacerbated by the challenges presented during the holiday period, which made troubleshooting more complicated.

Mr. Yazbek extended his apologies for the inconvenience caused to customers and assured them that the issue had been addressed. A solution was implemented early this morning, allowing payments to resume as normal. He encouraged customers to reach out to ANZ Fiji at 132 411 if they encounter ongoing issues or believe they have incurred extra fees due to the outage.

This incident highlights the importance of timely communication from financial institutions during technical difficulties. With approximately 200,000 Fijians relying on ANZ Fiji for their banking needs, proactive measures and effective customer service are vital in maintaining trust and confidence.

Overall, while the outage has caused disruption, the prompt response by the bank’s team to rectify the situation hopefully restores normalcy for many customers and enhances their banking experience moving forward.
