ANZ Fiji faced a significant payment system outage starting Monday, December 30, 2024, leaving many customers frustrated for three days without any public notification from the bank about the situation. Only those who reached out to the bank’s helpline were informed of the issue.

ANZ’s country head for Fiji, Rabih Yazbek, stated that their technology teams have been working tirelessly to address the complex technical problems. The situation was exacerbated by the challenges presented by the public holiday period.

“We understand the impact this has had on our customers, and we sincerely apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused,” Mr. Yazbek expressed. He confirmed that the team completed a fix early this morning, and as of today, payment processing should resume as normal.

Customers who continue to experience issues or have concerns about potential additional bank fees due to the outage are encouraged to contact the bank at 132 411. With approximately 200,000 Fijians relying on ANZ Fiji for their banking needs, timely resolution and communication are vital.

This incident highlights the importance of effective communication during technical difficulties, especially for institutions that serve a large customer base. As the situation resolves, ANZ Fiji can focus on rebuilding customer trust through transparency and proactive updates in the future.

Overall, while this outage was challenging for many, the bank’s swift action to correct the issue assures customers that their concerns are being taken seriously.
