ANZ Fiji encountered a significant issue with its payment systems starting on Monday, December 30, 2024. For three days, many customers expressed their frustration due to a lack of communication from the bank regarding this outage, as no public notice was issued.

Customers who reached out to the Helpline were the only ones informed of the ongoing technical difficulties. ANZ’s country head for Fiji, Rabih Yazbek, explained that the bank’s technology teams have been diligently working to resolve the complex technical problems. However, the resolution efforts were hindered by the challenges associated with the holiday period.

Mr. Yazbek extended his apologies to customers for the inconvenience caused and confirmed that their team had successfully implemented a fix early this morning. As of today, payments should resume functioning normally.

Customers who continue to face issues or suspect they have incurred extra bank fees related to the outage are encouraged to reach out to the bank at 132 411. ANZ Fiji serves a customer base of approximately 200,000 residents.

In a situation like this, the bank’s commitment to resolving the issue promptly and keeping customers informed once the system was restored is commendable. It reflects a dedication to customer service and operational resilience, especially during challenging times.

As the bank moves forward, ongoing communication with customers will be vital to rebuild trust and ensure everyone is informed of any future issues more effectively. This experience can lead to important improvements in their communication strategies and technology resilience in the future.
