The Lilian Amazons, sponsored by Blue Gas, are set to journey to Napier, New Zealand, this Saturday to participate in the Duavata Sevens tournament. Following this event, they will return for their debut at the Malake Sevens tournament on October 26.
The Amazons continued their impressive performance by winning the Fullsend Sevens tournament in Whanganui over the weekend, where they emerged victorious against Fullsend with a score of 22-17 in the Cup final.
Team manager Mere Gaunavou expressed pride in the team’s accomplishments, noting that this victory is another significant achievement for the young squad. She highlighted that the team had previously won the esteemed Darwin Hottest 7s tournament last year and has consistently excelled in local competitions.
Recently, the Amazons also triumphed at the Brimstone Sevens, defeating the champion Seahawks, a club that consists of both current and former Fijiana representatives.
Gaunavou extended her gratitude to Blue Gas, the team’s main sponsor, associate sponsor Flame Tree, and the families and supporters for their unwavering support. She emphasized that the team’s achievements stem from a strong team culture and intensive training programs, acknowledging the challenges faced by many of the players who are relatively new to rugby.
