The Lilian Amazons, sponsored by Blue Gas, are set to head to Napier, New Zealand, for their upcoming challenge at the Duavata Sevens tournament this Saturday. Following this event, the team will return to participate in the Malake Sevens tournament on October 26.
The Amazons have extended their impressive winning streak, having recently secured victory at the Fullsend Sevens tournament in Whanganui. They triumphed over Fullsend with a score of 22-17 in the Cup final.
Amazon manager Mere Gaunavou expressed that this win signifies another important achievement for the young squad. “Last year, the team emerged victorious in the prestigious Darwin Hottest 7s tournament, and we have maintained strong performances in local events,” she noted.
Just weeks prior, the Amazons claimed victory in the Brimstone Sevens, overcoming the champion Seahawks, who include both current and former Fijiana representatives.
Gaunavou acknowledged the support from the team’s primary sponsor, Blue Gas, along with associate sponsor Flame Tree, as well as the families and supporters for their contributions. “The team’s success is based on a strong culture and thorough training regimens. Most of these girls are new to rugby, which requires significant dedication and effective training to compete and win, particularly given their relative inexperience,” she added.
