The Lilian Amazons, sponsored by Blue Gas, are set to head to Napier, New Zealand, for the upcoming Duavata Sevens tournament this Saturday. Following this event, they will make their debut at the Malake Sevens tournament on October 26.
The team recently extended their winning streak after clinching the title at the Fullsend Sevens tournament in Whanganui, where they triumphed over Fullsend with a score of 22-17 in the Cup final. Team manager Mere Gaunavou hailed this victory as a significant achievement for the young squad.
“Last year, the team captured the prestigious Darwin Hottest 7s tournament, and our performances in local competitions have been consistently strong,” Gaunavou noted. Just weeks prior, the Amazons claimed victory at the Brimstone Sevens, defeating the renowned Seahawks, a team featuring current and former Fijiana representatives.
Gaunavou expressed gratitude to the team’s primary sponsor, Blue Gas, as well as associate sponsor Flame Tree, along with the families and supporters who have backed the squad. She emphasized that the team’s accomplishments stem from a solid culture and intensive training programs. Many of the players are new to rugby, necessitating significant dedication and effective training to compete successfully, despite their limited experience.
