The Lilian Amazons, sponsored by Blue Gas, are set to travel to Napier, New Zealand, to compete in the Duavata Sevens tournament this Saturday. Following this event, they will return for their inaugural participation in the Malake Sevens tournament on October 26.
The Amazons maintained their impressive winning streak by clinching the Fullsend Sevens tournament in Whanganui over the weekend, securing victory against Fullsend with a score of 22-17 in the Cup final.
Team manager Mere Gaunavou expressed that this win represents another significant achievement for the young team. She highlighted that last year, they triumphed in the esteemed Darwin Hottest 7s tournament and have consistently excelled in local competitions.
Recently, the team also triumphed in the Brimstone Sevens, defeating the champion Seahawks, a club featuring current and former members of the Fijiana team.
Gaunavou extended her gratitude to the team’s main sponsor, Blue Gas, as well as associate sponsor Flame Tree, and their families and supporters for their continued support. She emphasized that the team’s achievements are rooted in a strong culture and extensive training programs. Many of the players are relatively new to rugby, which requires significant dedication and disciplined training to compete and succeed, despite their youth in the sport.
