The Lilian Amazons, sponsored by Blue Gas, are set to travel to Napier, New Zealand, for their next challenge at the Duavata Sevens tournament this Saturday. Following this event, they will return for their debut at the Malake Sevens tournament on October 26.
Recently, the Amazons continued their impressive winning streak by clinching the Fullsend Sevens tournament in Whanganui, where they triumphed over Fullsend with a score of 22-17 in the Cup final.
Team manager Mere Gaunavou highlighted the significance of this victory for the young squad. “Last year, the team won the prestigious Darwin Hottest 7s tournament, and we have consistently performed well in local tournaments,” she noted.
Just a few weeks earlier, the Amazons secured a win at the Brimstone Sevens, overcoming the defending champions, the Seahawks, which features both current and former Fijiana representatives.
Gaunavou expressed gratitude to the team’s primary sponsor, Blue Gas, as well as associate sponsor Flame Tree and the families and supporters for their unwavering support. “The team’s success is founded on its strong culture and rigorous training programs. Most of these girls are new to rugby, so it takes immense sacrifice and proper training to compete and win, despite their young training age,” she added.
