The Lilian Amazons, sponsored by Blue Gas, are heading to Napier, New Zealand, to participate in the Duavata Sevens tournament this Saturday. Following this event, they will prepare for their first appearance at the Malake Sevens tournament scheduled for October 26.
The Amazons recently extended their impressive winning streak by clinching the title at the Fullsend Sevens tournament held in Whanganui, where they triumphed over Fullsend with a score of 22-17 in the Cup final.
Team manager Mere Gaunavou expressed that this victory signifies another significant achievement for the young squad. “Last year, the team won the prestigious Darwin Hottest 7s tournament, and we have consistently excelled in local tournaments,” she remarked.
Just weeks prior, the Amazons claimed victory at the Brimstone Sevens, overcoming the reigning champions Seahawks, a club featuring both current and former players from the Fijiana team.
Gaunavou extended her gratitude to the team’s primary sponsor, Blue Gas, along with associate sponsor Flame Tree, as well as their families and supporters for their unwavering support.
“The success of the team is built on a strong culture and rigorous training programs. Many of these girls are new to rugby, and it requires significant dedication and adequate training to compete and succeed, especially considering their relative inexperience,” she added.
