The Lilian Amazons, sponsored by Blue Gas, are set to travel to Napier, New Zealand, for the Duavata Sevens tournament on Saturday. Following this event, they will return to participate in the Malake Sevens tournament on October 26.
The team has continued their impressive winning streak, recently claiming victory at the Fullsend Sevens tournament in Whanganui, where they secured a 22-17 win against Fullsend in the Cup final.
Team manager Mere Gaunavou highlighted this achievement as another significant milestone for the young squad. “Last year, the team won the prestigious Darwin Hottest 7s tournament, and we have consistently performed well in local tournaments,” she stated.
Just weeks prior, the Amazons triumphed at the Brimstone Sevens, defeating the champion Seahawks, a club featuring current and former Fijiana representatives.
Gaunavou extended her gratitude to the team’s primary sponsor, Blue Gas, along with associate sponsor Flame Tree, as well as the families and supporters who contribute to their success. She emphasized that the team’s achievements stem from a strong culture and rigorous training programs, noting that many of the players are new to rugby. “It takes immense sacrifice and proper training to compete and win, despite their young training age,” she added.
