The Lilian Amazons, sponsored by Blue Gas, are set to head to Napier, New Zealand, to participate in the Duavata Sevens tournament this Saturday. Following this competition, they will return to compete in the Malake Sevens tournament on October 26.
The team has maintained an impressive winning streak, having recently triumphed in the Fullsend Sevens tournament in Whanganui, where they secured a 22-17 victory against Fullsend in the Cup final.
Amazon manager Mere Gaunavou remarked that this win signifies another achievement for the young team. “Last year, the team claimed the prestigious Darwin Hottest 7s tournament, and we have shown strong performances in local competitions,” she noted.
Just weeks prior, the Amazons won the Brimstone Sevens by defeating the champion Seahawks, a club featuring current and former Fijiana representatives.
Gaunavou expressed gratitude to their main sponsor, Blue Gas, along with associate sponsor Flame Tree, as well as the families and supporters for their unwavering support. “The team’s success stems from its strong culture and rigorous training programs. Many of these girls are new to rugby, and it requires tremendous sacrifice and effective training to compete and win, especially given their relatively short experience in the sport,” she added.
