The Lilian Amazons, sponsored by Blue Gas, are set to travel to Napier, New Zealand, for the upcoming Duavata Sevens tournament this Saturday. Following this tournament, they will make their first appearance at the Malake Sevens on October 26.
The team recently extended their impressive winning streak by clinching the title at the Fullsend Sevens tournament in Whanganui, defeating Fullsend with a score of 22-17 in the Cup final.
Team manager Mere Gaunavou expressed that this victory represents another significant achievement for the young squad. “Last year, the team won the prestigious Darwin Hottest 7s tournament, and we have consistently performed well in local tournaments,” she stated.
Just weeks prior, the Amazons secured a win at the Brimstone Sevens, overcoming the champion Seahawks, which features both current and former Fijiana representatives.
Gaunavou acknowledged the support of the team’s main sponsor, Blue Gas, along with associate sponsor Flame Tree, families, and supporters for their continued backing.
“The team’s success is rooted in its strong culture and rigorous training programs. Most of these girls are new to rugby, so it takes immense sacrifice and proper training to compete and win, despite their young training age,” she added.
