The Lilian Amazons, sponsored by Blue Gas, are set to head to Napier, New Zealand, for the Duavata Sevens tournament on Saturday. This tournament precedes their debut at the Malake Sevens event on October 26.
The team has maintained an impressive winning streak, recently clinching the Fullsend Sevens tournament in Whanganui, where they triumphed over Fullsend with a score of 22-17 in the Cup final. Amazon manager Mere Gaunavou described this win as a significant achievement for the young squad.
“Last year, we secured the prestigious Darwin Hottest 7s tournament, and we have consistently excelled in local competitions,” Gaunavou noted.
Just weeks earlier, the Amazons won the Brimstone Sevens by overcoming the champion Seahawks, a club featuring both current and former Fijiana representatives.
Gaunavou expressed gratitude to their major sponsor, Blue Gas, as well as associate sponsor Flame Tree, alongside families and supporters for their unwavering support.
“The team’s accomplishments stem from a strong culture and dedicated training programs. Many of these players are new to rugby, requiring significant commitment and effective training to compete and succeed, especially given their short training experience,” she added.
