The Lilian Amazons, sponsored by Blue Gas, are set to head to Napier, New Zealand, for the Duavata Sevens tournament this Saturday. Following this event, they will participate in their inaugural appearance at the Malake Sevens tournament on October 26.
The team has maintained an impressive winning streak, recently securing victory at the Fullsend Sevens tournament in Whanganui, where they triumphed over Fullsend with a score of 22-17 in the Cup final.
Amazon manager Mere Gaunavou highlighted that this win represents yet another significant achievement for the young team. She noted, “Last year, the team won the prestigious Darwin Hottest 7s tournament, and we have consistently performed well in local tournaments.”
Just a few weeks prior, the Amazons clinched the title at the Brimstone Sevens by defeating the champion Seahawks, a club boasting both current and former Fijiana representatives.
Gaunavou expressed gratitude to the team’s major sponsor, Blue Gas, as well as associate sponsor Flame Tree, and to the families and supporters for their ongoing support. “The team’s success is rooted in its strong culture and rigorous training programs. Most of these girls are new to rugby, so it takes immense sacrifice and proper training to compete and win, despite their young training age,” she remarked.
