Alleged Rape Incident of Japanese Tourist in Fiji: Investigation Ongoing

Police are continuing their investigation into an alleged rape of a 26-year-old Japanese female tourist by an Indian national at a homestay in Nadi in May.

The incident is reported to have occurred at the end of April while the victim, a teacher, was on her second night in the country. The woman claimed that the suspect, from Guwahati, Assam, India, attacked her while they were both staying at the same property.

According to the tourist, she was awake in the dormitory when the man, who had earlier asked her to turn off the light, approached her, saying he wanted to sleep. In the early hours of the morning, the victim alleges that she was assaulted and raped by the man in the dark dormitory.

The tourist reportedly had visible injury marks on her neck and leg, which she photographed as evidence. The following morning, she informed a Fijian friend about the incident, who then reported it to the Namaka Police Station.

Police escorted the victim to the hospital for medical examinations, and tests for diseases and pregnancy came back negative. The victim and her friend contacted the local media to highlight the need for justice, as the suspect remains at large and may pose a threat to other women.

Acting Commissioner of Police Juki Fong Chew confirmed that a report was made and the case is currently under investigation.
