Police are continuing their investigation into an alleged rape incident involving a 26-year-old Japanese tourist by an Indian national at a homestay in Nadi this past May.
The incident reportedly occurred at the end of April, during the victim’s second night in the country. The woman, a teacher, claims she was raped by a man from Guwahati, Assam, India, who was staying at the same property.
According to the victim, the suspect approached her in the dormitory after having earlier asked her to turn off the light so he could sleep. In the early morning hours, she alleges the man attacked and raped her in the dark dormitory.
The victim had visible injury marks on her neck and leg, which she photographed as evidence. The following morning, she reported the incident to a Fijian friend, who then reported it to the Namaka Police Station.
Police took the woman to the hospital for medical examinations, including tests for diseases and pregnancy, which yielded negative results.
The victim and her friend have reached out to bring attention to the case, emphasizing the need for justice, as the suspect is still at large and could be a danger to other women.
Acting Commissioner of Police Juki Fong Chew confirmed that a report was made to the Police and that the case is currently under investigation.
