Allegations and Investigations: The FICAC Controversy Unfolds

Assistant Commissioner of Police Operations Livai Driu has refuted claims by former acting deputy commissioner of the Fiji Independent Commission Against Corruption (FICAC) Francis Puleiwai, who alleged that her home was broken into following her resignation from FICAC on September 5, 2024.

In an interview with ABC News, Ms. Puleiwai stated that her residence was unlawfully entered and the tires of her vehicle were slashed after her departure from the commission.

However, ACP Driu clarified that a report regarding the break-in at Ms. Puleiwai’s home was submitted in April of this year, prior to her resignation and the appointment of Barbara Malimali.

“I can confirm that there was a report lodged in April this year and not after her resignation,” he stated. “Some of the stolen items have been recovered and returned to her.”

ACP Driu expressed his belief that the burglary incident was unrelated to Ms. Puleiwai’s resignation or Ms. Malimali’s subsequent appointment. Furthermore, he revealed that an investigation into Ms. Puleiwai is currently underway following a report filed at the Totogo Police Station.
