Allegations and Investigation: A Deepening Controversy in Fiji’s Police Force

The Assistant Commissioner of Police Operations, Livai Driu, has rejected allegations made by Francis Puleiwai, the former acting deputy commissioner of the Fiji Independent Commission Against Corruption (FICAC), regarding a break-in at her home. Puleiwai claimed in an interview with ABC News that her house was invaded and the tires of her car were damaged following her resignation from FICAC on September 5, 2024.

However, ACP Driu stated that a police report concerning the break-in was submitted in April of this year, before the events surrounding Puleiwai’s resignation and Barbara Malimali’s subsequent appointment. “I can confirm that there was a report lodged in April this year and not after her resignation and Barbara Malimali’s appointment,” he stated.

Driu also noted that some of the stolen items from Puleiwai’s residence have been recovered and returned to her. He emphasized that he believes the break-in is unrelated to her resignation or Malimali’s appointment. Additionally, he mentioned that police are investigating a separate report concerning Puleiwai that was filed at the Totogo Police Station.
