Allan Alo Arts Festival Kicks Off: A Celebration of Pacific Culture

The Allan Alo Arts Festival (AAAF) 2024 was launched at The University of the South Pacific’s (USP) Laucala Campus on Monday, celebrating Pacific arts and culture. The event took place at the Oceania Art Gallery, unveiling a retrospective exhibition that highlighted the works of the late Allan Alo and Epeli Hau’ofa. According to a media update from USP, the gallery holds special significance as a center for cultural expression and was the starting point of Allan’s remarkable journey.

The launch featured a dynamic performance and an engaging exhibition showcasing the talents of prominent Pacific artists. The festival aims to celebrate Pacific cultural heritage, with contributions from regional guest artists and students of Allan Alo based in Fiji.

Dr. Rosiana Lagi, the deputy head of the School of Pacific Arts, Communication and Education (SPACE), emphasized that the launch marked more than just the start of a week-long event; it represented a celebration of the lasting spirit of Pacific arts. She stated, “It is an opportunity to honour Allan Alo’s contributions, reflect on the past, and look forward to the future with creative hope.”

The festival will run until Saturday, offering various workshops, performances, and shows for attendees to enjoy.
