A 37-year-old man from Lautoka has been taken into police custody after causing a vehicular accident while intoxicated. The incident occurred on Sukanaivalu Road, where the man lost control of his car and struck a 40-year-old account clerk who was standing by the roadside. The victim has been admitted to Lautoka Aspen Hospital, while the driver remains in police custody.
In a separate incident the same morning, another 37-year-old man from Kuku, Bau, Tailevu, also lost control of his vehicle while driving on Knolly Street. He crashed into a concrete retaining wall and is currently receiving treatment at CWM Hospital. Both individuals were found to be under the influence of alcohol at the time of their respective incidents.
Authorities have initiated traffic investigations into both accidents to understand the circumstances and ensure safety on the roads.
This highlights the ongoing concern regarding road safety and the risks associated with driving under the influence. It serves as a reminder of the importance of responsible drinking and the potential consequences of impaired driving. By raising awareness about these incidents, communities can work towards reducing accidents and promoting safer driving practices.
In a hopeful note, communities can come together to advocate for road safety campaigns and support measures that discourage drinking and driving, ultimately aiming to create a safer environment for everyone on the roads.
